Over the years, I had dined at Francesco's, the Chef Tom's, then Francesco's part II. Each time I had decent dining experience. Granted, this restaurant is serving American Italian (don't expect off the grid type dishes), it is what it is. The most recent trip to Francesco's was quite disappointing. We did not even try the food, due to the service. We were seated relatively quickly however we sat for an additional 20 minutes without anyone coming to the table. I made clear eye contact with any employee I could--hoping for a server, a menu, water...something. To no avail, we left. The restaurant had maybe 3-4 tables seated. Had it been packed full, it would have been understandable. One good experience will leave you wanting more, one bad experience will usually lead to you telling your friends and never returning, unfortunately this was a big turn off in my book. Hopefully management will be better about looking out for customer service issues--as with any restaurant that shouldn't be an excuse for a failing business.

Definitely on the decline .... I remember Francesco's being so much better when I was a kid. The last few times I have been to this location I left thinking "meh". It's not bad, it's not great. I would say it is on the lower end of chain restaurants and certainly not a good place for Italian food in Salt Lake City. If you're not here for the convenience of the location, probably best to check out something better.

This is a sad tale, in a way. Quite a few years ago, when it was Francesco's or Chef Tom's or possibly both, it was a nice little spot to get a fairly decent slug of spaghetti and meat sauce, especially after a good night of drinking. Then I wound up moving away for a while and didn't make it for a few years and then with each consecutive visit, the quality just went right into the toilet. Sure, the food was nothing that would fool you into thinking it was excellent, but it was solid and substantive. Let's start with the good thing. If you like the garlic butter breadstick things, go buy the Chef Tom's butter spread at Harmon's across the street and just make it yourself. You can also make the spread itself, if you're so inclined. It's not like they were re-inventing the wheel or anything there. Also, the place is located by a movie theater, so there's that. As to the rest - and I don't know why this seems to be the case so much with Italian joints and maybe it isn't, but with them it's just easier to detect - but the last three visits I made there, it was clear they were using..heavily. By that, I mean, of course, the microwave. Gone was the freshness and former quality, such as it was, which was always a bit spotty over at the old Fort Union place, but usually more consistent here. It was not a happy thing to see and with all the street and lane stupidity in that area, it truly is not worth bothering with at all. This used to be a reliable place to get some pretty decent grub at a fairly low price and while it hasn't descended to the depths of Olive Garden quite yet, neither is it too far away.

I had Spaghetti Primavera. As others have said the cheesy bread was the best part of the meal. My idea of Spaghetti Primavera is not some very large steamed vegetables plopped on top of a small amount of marinara sauce poured over some noodles. The veges should more finely chopped and mixed in with the sauce. It does look like they have a good business in pizza take-out.

This restaurant used to be Chef Tom Francesco's. Now under new management, apparently a few things have changed. We were told the changes were for the better "Better ingredients, fresher food" were some of the things listed by the hostess who guided us to our table. Unfortunately that wasn't quite the case. First thing you always notice in a restaurant is the service, especially when it's bad. It literally took 20+ minutes for the server to come to the table, greet us for the first time and take our drink orders. Another 10 minutes for the drinks to make it to the table. I should probably add that the restaurant was empty when we sat down. Once the orders were placed the food came in an acceptable amount of time. My guess is she had the chef in the back yelling at her to get the food out once it was ready. After the food was delivered to the table, she was never to be seen again. We ordered a classic Pepperoni Pizza and the Garlic Cheese Pizza (same as the garlic cheese bread sticks that they bring to the table...only in pizza form). The Garlic Cheese Pizza was a staple from when they were Chef Tom's. I am very glad they didn't do anything to mess that up, it's probably the only thing they have going for them now. The Pepperoni Pizza however, was not too far from disgusting. The only thing I can compare this atrocity to would be the pizza you would expect to be served at a movie theater, the kind that has been sitting out under the heat lamps for a few hours. The crust tasted like frozen cardboard, the cheese was rubbery and hard, and the sauce had that generic right-out-of-a-can taste. I have a feeling Cisco makes a lot of money on these guys. If you want a better tasting Pepperoni Pizza, you would be better off going to Little Caesars.

Ugh I don't know why I went here after eating at Siragusa's. I tasted bland boring food and the atmophere is blah. So I am now dedicated elsewhere. Cold food is not my forte'.

Our server (Jared?) was friendly but we had to ask several times for water, silverware, etc. The complimentary cheese sticks are delicious but have lots of garlic. Minestrone soup and green salads were good (raspberry vinaigrette and thousand island dressings). Fettuccini Alfredo was blah. Don't order that. My vegetarian lasagna was great--full of carrots, noodles, cheese, etc. but my sisters said their regular lasagnas were mostly sauce. The waiter brought my sister free ice cream for her birthday which was nice. Two of my sisters didn't eat much of their meals and didn't take the rest home which isn't a good sign.

Went here for lunch with a group. Last time I ate here was about 15 years ago and by looks of it they haven't cleaned since then either. As you walk in you cant help but notice the off smell and dirty floors and walls. As we were seated, the wood chairs had sticky wax buildup that was gross. I was asked to do a review and everyone wanted to throw in their 2 cents for me to put down. Gary was irritated that his meal came on a small, six inch plate causing his food to spill all over the table. Jason and Adam were irked that they had to repeat their order a few times to the server that wasn't paying attention. Randy wasn't feeling too dandy that he knew more about the menu and special than the server and that she had to run off and double check the special. I was put off by the overly greasy fettuccine and the 50's and 60's music playing in the background that made it feel like a car show rather than an Italian restaurant. All kidding aside, this whole thing was like a strange puzzle with lots of missing pieces. On a positive note the cheese bread they put on the table is pretty good. If you haven't been here for several years I would advise you to skip this place, it is not like it used to be.

First time eating at Francesco's. We had about a 15 minute wait but that can be anticipated on a Saturday night. We tried out the BBQ Chicken Pizza and it was pretty tasty. It's not anything special by any means, but it is a good one I'd recommend.

There was fantastic food here and it is reasonably priced. We were the only people here and had to ask her MANY times for (water, bread, a to go box, check). They definitely need WAY better service and need to be more attentive.

This place always has some great food! The portions are large so come hungry or plan on taking some home with you. They are also very quick with the bread and the order. Friendly staff too!

I grew up coming here practically weekly with my parents. In high school I always came with friends. You simply cannot beat the cheese sticks! Try them dipped in blue cheese- that's the best! We always get a simple green salad and a garlic cheese pizza. We love it and it always hits the spot. You can't go wrong with any of the pizzas. Or the garlic cheese sticks, of course. I don't think I have ever had anything else here but I do know a lot of people love the lasagna. Maybe one day we will try something else.

I love Francescos. I've loved it since it was Chef Toms. And back again. My family used to do weekly family nights consisting of episodes of Friends and a meal and this place supplied more dinners for us then anywhere else. Their garlic cheese pizza is worth dying over and the only Ranch I buy is in quart containers from these guys. Last night I went and had a nice dine in dinner with my friend (I could probably count on one hand the amount of times I've actually eaten there because it's harder to gorge on pizza in a fine dining establishment). We shared a fettucini and pizza. There was a slight mixup with our pizza but our waitress more than made up for it. Our and another customers got switched, they were very similar but I needed a no meat one and so she had the kitchen make a small one to make up for my missing half. I really appreciate that and she was so nice about it. Unfortunately the other customer was an asshole and decided to say something at the end. I don't remember our waitresses name but if this gets back to her somehow I just want to say thanks and screw rude customers. It was a very simple mistake that was rectified easily. The waitress was still nice to him but F that guy. Thanks Franny Drescoooos, you keep on doing you.

Always delicious! Their cheese sticks are THE BEST. I always get their pizza, which is always very very fresh and even good warmed up!! I did get the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo dish last time, in which it was very runny. However, the manager took it off our bill and made sure that the Alfredo sauce was remade for future customers that night. Totally made up for it, love this place!

Prices are reasonable and portions are ample, but the quality of the pizza and pasta is questionable at best. If you are on a budget this might be a decent option simply for the price, but if you are looking for good Italian food, there are better places with a comparable price. The service was pretty ordinary, as well.

I normally don't do this but after much thought I think I would like to save someone else the money. My wife and I work late and when we rolled back into town, we headed towards home and we were looking for a place to eat. This restaurant had an hour before they closed we thought we would stop in. The atmosphere as we walked in was as if we were interrupting the good time of the staff that worked there. We stood awkwardly for a bit and were then seated. After we were sat the waitress brought us some cheese bread while she took our order. I thought that was nice, and it actually tasted ok. After she took our order one of the staff busing tables was asked to grab us some glasses and silverware. She made a crusty to the waitresses face right in front of us and when she came back she placed the glasses pretty firmly on the table and threw the silverware down. I looked at my wife and said " Hope they aren't pissy when making the food?." We thought it was weird but carried on. My wife had Spaghetti and I had a side order fettucine. The noodles on both were so over cooked they could be mashed down with your tongue against the roof of your mouth. It was gross. My wife's spaghetti plate was just disgusting, the sauce was jarred I'm almost certain and the plate of noodles was SWIMMING in water. After neither of us ate we asked for the check. I was so disappointed I made a stink and said I am happy to pay for the bread, the salad and the two drinks. They manager came over and let us know it's their policy that just because we didn't like it they can exchange it for something else on the menu but not take it off the bill.. I was annoyed and my wife just wanted to leave. So in the end I ended up paying for something I didn't eat. The manager was "kind" enough to take one of the items off the bill. She really did want to exchange the food for something else on the menu and wanted us to be happy. Save your money don't order either of those dishes. Good luck patrons!

Some friends invited me to Francesco's, and my expectations were very low. Imagine my surprise, then, when upon entering, I encountered a clean, cozy, nicely decorated (for Christmas) family-style Italian restaurant! The service was stellar--within moments of being seated, we were served a delicious cheesy bread! Everyone in my party enjoyed their dishes--they were all expertly prepared. My ravioli were made with homemade, perfectly al-dente pasta filled with a delectable seasoned ground beef and smothered with a spectacular marinara sauce. The small pizza that accompanied my meal was perfectly prepared, with some of the freshest toppings that I've had on a pizza in recent memory. Again the service was excellent. I was SO impressed with Francesco's!!

So good! Francesco's is not typical of what my family looks for in a restaurant however we all absolutely love it! It's definitely causal comfort food but they have excellent customer service and the best pizza hands down!
